In Person in Nanaimo and Virtual Across British Columbia

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Living with obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviours can feel exhausting, isolating, and hard to explain to others. Rituals, checking, reassurance-seeking, or avoidance may bring short-term relief, but often leave little room for ease or spontaneity.

Counselling can be supportive when obsessive-compulsive patterns begin to interfere with daily life, relationships, or peace of mind.

At The Nest, we offer counselling that is calm, relational, and attentive to lived experience.

Counselling is offered in person in Nanaimo and virtually across British Columbia.

How OCD and compulsive patterns may show up

People seek ERP for many reasons, including:

  • Intrusive or distressing thoughts

  • Compulsive checking, counting, or ritualizing

  • Excessive reassurance-seeking

  • Avoidance of triggering situations

  • Difficulty tolerating uncertainty

  • Rituals that interfere with daily functioning

Support that builds tolerance, gradually and with care

ERP offers a structured, gradual approach to facing feared thoughts or situations while reducing reliance on compulsions. Sessions can support building tolerance for uncertainty and discomfort at a pace that feels manageable.

Support may focus on understanding triggers, developing new responses, and reclaiming space for daily life. Counselling is collaborative and paced with care, respecting each person's readiness and goals.
