Addiction
Addiction can involve patterns of substance use or behaviours that feel difficult to control, even when they no longer feel supportive. Counselling can help when these patterns begin to affect health, relationships, or daily life.
At The Nest, we offer counselling that is steady, relational, and attentive to lived experience.
Counselling is offered in person in Nanaimo and virtually across British Columbia.
How addiction may show up
People seek counselling for addiction for many reasons, including:
Difficulty reducing or stopping use or behaviours
Using substances or behaviours to cope with stress or emotions
Feelings of shame, guilt, or secrecy
Strain on relationships or responsibilities
Cycles of stopping and restarting
Feeling disconnected from values or goals
Support that is non-judgmental and collaborative
Counselling offers space to explore patterns, understand underlying needs, and build support for change. Sessions are collaborative and paced with care, without judgment or pressure.
You don’t need to know what change will look like before beginning.

It is so difficult to see someone you love suffering with addiction. In BC, unless court mandated, we cannot force anyone to attend therapy. However, attending therapy yourself can be very supportive to learn strategies to navigate your loved one’s addiction, gain helpful communication or boundary setting skills, and have an unbiased person to process the impacts to your own life.
